Memphis, Tennessee 38104

We are primarily a working & teaching space, but we love to have you come by to visit and shop during our open studio hours, which are

  • Wednesdays & Thursdays from 10 until 3
  • Scheduled workshop days for pop-in, “self-serve” shopping (usually Fridays & Saturdays…please see dates listed below), and
  • on other, non-workshop Fridays & Saturdays by appointment (and please don’t hesitate to call and set up a date.  we are happy to open for you whenever possible.)

(Thank you for understanding that our students are our top priority during workshops, and that we can’t break away from class for long…so, if you need an in-depth consult on a product, project or colors, it’s best to make an appointment or drop in on an open studio day. )

A note about parking: when you come to visit, please use the spaces on the streetParking spaces in the rear belong to my neighbors in the apartments.  One exception…if you need access via the ramp at the back door, just call and we’ll make sure there is a place available there for you.

We’re open for most Cooper/Young Nights Out, too, so if you’re out and about on the first Thursday evening of the month, please confirm the date here, and drop by and say hello.  There are always refreshments…come sip and shop between 5 and 8.  (The next C/Y NO is on June 6th.)

me & mrs. jones is thrilled to be the Memphis-area stockist for Annie Sloan’s fabulous Chalk Paint® decorative paints.  Chalk Paint® is the ideal medium for painting furniture, cabinets, floors, and fixtures, for everyone from weekend DIYers to professional artisans.  An incredible range of beautiful, easy finishes is possible using Annie’s gorgeous palette of 30 colors along with her waxes and lacquer.  The best part?  No priming, sanding, or stripping is necessary.  It’s environmentally kind: water-based, odor-free, and low-voc.

We carry the full line of Annie’s paints (in sample pots and quarts), brushes, waxes and lacquer, as well as her four most recent books.  Just in: Annie’s brand new Color Recipes for Painted Furniture.  We also have stencils from five different designers, brushes, books on decorative painting and interior design, and other creative sundries.

If you’re looking for Chalk Paint®, but are not in the Memphis area, please visit Annie Sloan Unfolded to find the retailer nearest to you.

And…Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint is here!  We are over the moon to have all 12 of her beautiful colors (with six new hues coming this summer) in quart and sample sizes, along with her bonding agent, furniture wax, antiquing wax, hempseed oil and crackle.  Milk paint is environmentally gentle, finishes beautifully with waxes and gilding, and is intuitive, creative and just plain fun to create a variety of looks with, from chippy and primitive to refined and elegant.

Due to the unique nature of our wares, all sales are final, and we unfortunately can’t accept any returns or exchanges.

and, on Tuesday, July 23rd, Jennylyn Pringle (president of the Homestead Paint Company, maker of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint) is coming to Memphis for a special, fun, milk-paint filled day at me & mrs. jones.  Please pencil it in, and watch this space (and our monthly newsletter) for details!

THE FINE PRINT…

To receive first notice of new courses being added to the schedule, please click on “contact” above, and add your email address to the mailing list.  Our monthly newsletter contains all the details on upcoming workshops, events, news, and new products.  (And please know that Mrs. Jones never shares her list!)

Tuition covers all materials, supplies, treats and refreshments.

Payment in full secures your reservation, and is non-refundable.  If for any reason you can’t attend the course you’ve enrolled in, let us know at least 72 hours in advance, and we’ll apply your fees to a future class of your choice.  If the workshop date must be changed due to weather or other unavoidable circumstances on our part, we will re-schedule it for the soonest mutually agreeable time.

Please wear clothes that you wouldn’t mind getting a little paint on…ditto your footwear.  As Annie Sloan herself says: “Kindly leave your cashmere and tiara at home.”

To ensure that you leave having learned every little detail we can cover in a course, and with all of your questions answered, we keep classes to a maximum of eight people.   Depending on the topic, some workshops may have even fewer spots available, so that everyone has plenty of working space.  So, if you see something you like on the schedule, don’t hesitate.

Plenty of street parking is available near the studio.   And, unless you’re unloading something large and/or heavy, please don’t park in our driveway…there are apartments in the rear, and my neighbors must be able to get in and out of their assigned spaces in back.  If you must have access via the ramp at the back door, please give us a quick call ahead so that we can make sure there is a spot available for you when you arrive.

A final note: as Mrs. Jones is loathe to miss a meal, during full-day courses, we’ll take time for lunch.  You’re welcome to break away, stroll the neighborhood, and take advantage of one of the many great spots within blocks of the studio, or stay in, and we’ll order something delivered.

If you prefer to bring something, there is a fridge here with room for you.   No matter how long the class lasts, you’re always welcome to help yourself to coffee, tea, cold drinks and treats during breaks.

it’s a beautiful day in our neighborhood

NEIGHBORHOOD:

While you’re in Cooper/Young, drop in and shop at Burke’s Books, Palladio, Market Central, Toad Hall, Graham’s Lighting, Loudean’s, Second Hand Rose, Urban Outfitters, Kindred Spirit Style, and Consignments.  Close by and not to be missed is the Worlds Away outlet, Worlds Apart.   They are having lots of fun around the corner at ArtjamN and Allie Cat Arts.  And we are so excited that Sew Memphis is open, just down the other way off Central Avenue.  (For other crafting supplies, Stash Yarn Shop has recently moved from Cooper/Young to down the street at 2157 Madison Avenue, at Overton Square.)

Looking for other creative workshopping opportunities?  Explore nearby Flicker Street Studio for classes with top local artists, or the community education options at the Memphis College of Art.

If you’re hungry, you’re in luck: Alchemy, Cortona, Stone Soup, Beauty Shop Celtic Crossing, Mulan, Cafe Ole, Tsunami, Central Barbeque, Cafe Palladio, Young Avenue Deli, Jasmine Thai & Vegetarian, Imagine Vegan Cafe, and Soul Fish are all just steps away.  A few blocks north up Cooper Street, you’ll find some other fantastic places to eat and play: Local, Chiwawa, Bosco’s, and more.

Need coffee?  Java Cabana and Otherlands will fix you right up.  For something sweet, scoot over to Yolo.  If music is your beat, visit Goner Records, the Memphis Drum Shop, and Xanadu Music & Books…all within a few blocks.  For healing/relaxing/pampering: Midtown Massage & Bodywork, and the Polish Bottle.  And for the supplies you might need that we don’t carry, we can’t compete (nor would we!) with our friends at the Art Supply Center.

If you come for a Saturday appointment or workshop, pop down the street to the Cooper/Young Community Farmers Market, one of the very best in our area.

STAY CLOSE:

If you’re traveling to see us, the closest hotel is five minutes away at the Holiday Inn Suites at the University of Memphis.  Downtown hotels are 10 to 15 minutes from Cooper/Young.
